  • A low-frequency message signal (top) may be carried by an AM or FM radio wave.
  • Categorization for signal modulation based on data and carrier types
  • [[Waterfall plot]] of a 146.52 MHz radio carrier, with amplitude modulation by a 1,000 Hz sinusoid. Two strong sidebands at + and - 1 kHz from the carrier frequency are shown.
  • A carrier, frequency modulated by a 1,000 Hz sinusoid. The [[modulation index]] has been adjusted to around 2.4, so the carrier frequency has small amplitude. Several strong sidebands are apparent; in principle an infinite number are produced in FM but the higher-order sidebands are of negligible magnitude.

In electronics and telecommunications, modulation is the process of varying one or more properties of a periodic waveform, called the carrier signal, with a separate signal called the modulation signal that typically contains information to be transmitted. For example, the modulation signal might be an audio signal representing sound from a microphone, a video signal representing moving images from a video camera, or a digital signal representing a sequence of binary digits, a bitstream from a computer.
Demodulation
  • constellation]], X, relative to the intended constellation, O.
  • Receiver structure for QPSK. The matched filters can be replaced with correlators. Each detection device uses a reference threshold value to determine whether a 1 or 0 is detected.
PROCESS OF EXTRACTING THE ORIGINAL INFORMATION-BEARING SIGNAL FROM A CARRIER WAVE
Demodulator; Demodulate; Digital demodulation; Digital Communication Receiver
Demodulation is extracting the original information-bearing signal from a carrier wave. A demodulator is an electronic circuit (or computer program in a software-defined radio) that is used to recover the information content from the modulated carrier wave.

Modulate (album)

Modulate is Bob Mould's fifth solo album, released in 2002. Although a few tracks on his previous release, The Last Dog and Pony Show, had featured tape loops and samples, Mould shocked his fans with such a dramatic embrace of electronica.

The record includes the song "The Receipt," which City Pages observed "can be taken as a barely veiled attack on Mould's old Hüsker Dü-mate Grant Hart."

Mould dubbed the tour supporting this album The Carnival of Light and Sound. It featured him performing alone on stage, backed by prerecorded tracks as short films were projected on screens behind him.
